How Do We Cultivate a Healthy Soul?

Today’s Daily Devotion – December 1 2022

By Khai Samante

Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.

— 3 John 1:2

Concerns about mental health have grown as people grapple with the health, social, and economic consequences of COVID-19. Because of the uncertainty and fear the pandemic instilled in us, many people developed increased levels of anxiety, depression-related symptoms, and even post-traumatic stress disorder.

Aside from our mental and physical health, the health of our soul must be a priority in our lives because it is at the heart of who we are and everything we do. How do we cultivate a healthy soul?

The first step is to surrender everything to God on a regular and intentional basis. We must remind ourselves that we are not in charge, but that our sovereign God is. Our act of surrender relieves us of all our burdens.

Then, as we surrender everything to Him, we can rest assured that God will build our lives according to His perfect plans. Trusting in the Lord allows us to wait patiently on His plans rather than trying to accomplish His will for us on our own timetable.

Finally, remember to breathe and live in the present moment. When we continue to let our soul run ahead of us, our mind, body, and soul do as well. This leads to frustration and a stressful life. Let’s live with a grateful heart and not be hesitant to ask God to show us His goodness and to make us aware of His presence throughout the day. According to Psalm 42:1-2, “My soul pants for you, my God, as the deer pants for streams of water. My soul yearns for God, the living God. When will I be able to meet with God? ”

Lord, breathe life to my soul.
