Jesus Calls Us His Friends

Today’s Daily Devotion – January 10 2023

By Khai Samante

I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. — John 15:15

My daughter enjoys sharing with me stories about her friends. She only has four friends and hopes to make more. I told her that finding a friend is not that easy because, in my experience, some friends stay, others are only there for a season, and others leave. And so I encouraged her to pray for friends who will love her despite her flaws and help her grow in her faith.

That is why it is so comforting to know that Jesus calls us His friends. Jesus calls those who obey his commands as his friends (John 15:14). And He is not the type of friend who is only present when things are going well. He is always with us, even when things are tough. In fact, because of His great love for us, He even laid His life for us (John 15:13). This is significant evidence that Jesus regards us as his friends. We can come to Him, tell Him about our wonderful experiences, share our troubles and frustrations with Him, and even cry out loud to Him, just as we do with our genuine friends. Jesus intends to have a deep, genuine, and growing relationship with us.

Thank you, Jesus, for your great love!
