Jesus, The Servant Healer

He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up.
Then the fever left her and she waited on them.

Mark 1:31

Prayer is and always will be the best medicine. When we are faced with a sickness or tough situation, what is the first thing that we do? Do we sit down and think things through, consult others, or just roll up our sleeves and tackle the problem? Sometimes in frustration or desperation after exhausting every option, we then say, “All I can do now is pray” as if that’s the last resort.

Let us take a lesson from Simon, Andrew, James and John as written in the gospel of Mark. The disciples first response in hearing that Simon’s mother-in-law was sick was to approach Jesus. The “Great Physician” wasted no time in healing her. He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up. Then the fever left her and she waited on them. Instantaneously, the sick became the servant.

Remember, Nicholas Black Elk’s prayer: “Take each step in prayer, for when you take each step in prayer, you will always be walking in a sacred manner.”

Prayer is our lifeline and Jesus is our anchor!
