Kingdom Mindset

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Matthew 6:33 NIV

Read Matthew 6:31-33

What does it mean to seek first God’s kingdom and righteousness? During Jesus’ time, what people think about the word ‘kingdom’ is Rome, which is the imperial center of power then or Ceasar who is the one ruling in absolute power that time. On the other hand, during the early churches, their understanding of the phrase “God’s kingdom” is God showing himself here on earth in power and glory.

The kingdom of God is the authority of Jesus Christ here on earth, the blessing and fullness of life that overflows from living under the ruling of Christ, and the church. We submit to His Kingdom and we acknowledge that He is our Lord and Savior. Seeking the Kingdom of God is intentionally and prayerfully living in a servant-way, considering the poor, the oppressed, and the marginalized. We, human, have tendency to be self-centered, consumed with worries because of our wants and needs, bent towards worldly glory and power. The power God has given us is meant for a different way, that is to serve His Kingdom and to spread the Gospel to the lost. Where is your focus now? In Easy-to-Read Version, the scripture says, “What you should want most is God’s kingdom and doing what he wants you to do. Then he will give you all these other things you need.

Holy Spirit, help me to live according to your ways.
