Let Your Yes Be Yes…

Let your yes be yes and your no be no.

Matthew 5:37

Just as our Blessed Mother’s role modeled the most important “Yes” in salvation history, each one of our yeses matter. Recently, I was at the YMCA with my mother. We were looking to sign up for an orientation class on the aerobic equipment. Larry was the first trainer that we approached. He gave us the choice to sign up for a class at the front desk or conduct the orientation now. Larry epitomized customer service. Do today’s work today. This led to a very productive session and a friendship established.

A whole series of “yeses” needed to occur before this relationship was established. We first had to say yes to go to the YMCA. We had to say yes to asking for the orientation and then agree to have the orientation when asked. Throughout the orientation our trainer was kind, knowledgeable and engaging. He was very popular as many other gym members greeted him in our presence and one member gave him a few birthday presents. This led me to recruit others in the gym to a thunderous chorus of “Happy Birthday.” All because we said yes.

And your no be no.
