Meet People Where They’re At - Daily Devotion

And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. — 1 Thessalonians 5:14

What does it mean to meet people where they’re at? In 2021, this is a phrase that is increasing in popularity. Paul’s exhortation to the Thessalonians has a phrase that is comparable to this.

Paul instructed the Thessalonians to minister in a number of methods, depending on the needs of the people they were ministering to. If someone is a freeloader, warn them to get a move on. Encourage someone who is discouraged. He also reminded them to help the weak and be patient with everyone else. This means looking for the best in each other and doing everything we can to bring it out.

We must be patient with everyone, even if we must employ various tactics with different people. True Christianity is about the fruit of the Holy Spirit in us, which is the ability to love and support those who are difficult. Meeting people where they are requires us to escape from the “me trap” and shift our emphasis away from ourselves, and instead focus on the lives of others.

Reflect on the love of God in the world!
