My Abba Father - Daily Devotion

The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” – Romans 8:15 NIV – 321

In Jewish tradition, children address their fathers with the warm and endearing name Abba, which is similar to our word Daddy and conveys a sense of youthful dependency, love, and vulnerability. God is a Holy God. However, sometimes we forget that He is also our Father who longs to have an intimate relationship with us. The phrase “Abba, Father” describes the fine dose of how we, God’s children, should view and approach our heavenly Father.

The words “Abba” and “Father” are used together to help us balance our perspective of God, uniting Abba’s intimacy with Father’s reverence. God prefers a greeting that is warm and personal. He’d rather want to hear us call Him “Daddy” than in a stiff tone. When we say, “Abba,” we are expressing our total trust and reliance on our heavenly Father.

Enjoy the comfort of knowing your Abba Father.
