The Great Commission and the Sin of Omission

Today’s Daily Devotion

Paul says in Romans 7, “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.” Who can relate to Paul? There are moments when we find ourselves wondering why we ever did anything we are not supposed to do.

James 4:17 says, “Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.” This is known as the sin of omission: omitting to do what is proper or failing to follow instructions. Examples of sins of omission include refusing to share the gospel with others, avoiding praying for someone, and failing to care for people in need.

Jesus commanded us to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you (Matthew 28:19-20). This is a command and not an optional task for every believer.

Are you ready to make disciples?

So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.
James 4:17 ESV

Jesus, empower us as we fulfill the great commission.
