Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! — Ezekiel 37:4

From the book of Ezekiel, Chapter 37, God brings Ezekiel to a valley full of dry bones in a dream-like vision. He is commanded to carry a prophecy and the bones connect into human figures, then become covered with flesh and skin. God reveals the bones as the People of Israel in hopeless exile and commands the Prophet to carry another prophecy in order to revitalize these human figures.

God comes up big once again! He rescues his people by breathing his spirit into them so that they may come back to life. “Ruach” is the Hebrew word for breath, wind, and spirit. Like oxygen, the breath of God is fundamental to our existence. We see this in the opening verses of Scripture when the Spirit of God hovers over the water (Genesis1:2). After the resurrection of Jesus, he breathes the Spirit into his disciples and sends them out to proclaim the gospel (John20:21-22). Every day receive the life-giving power and grace of the Holy Spirit!
