What Child Is This?

Isaiah 9:6 Daily Devotion Scripture

For unto us a child is born, for unto us a son is given, and His name shall be the prince of peace. — Isaiah 9:6

“What child is this?” is one of my favorites Christmas songs. This refrain exalts our King:

“This, this is Christ, the King, whom shepherds guard and angels sing: Haste, haste to bring Him laud, The Babe, the Son of Mary!”

Tomorrow we will celebrate the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ.” Yet, if we honestly consider the heart of Christmas, it is, indeed, all about gift giving. At Christmas, we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the greatest gift ever given, by the greatest gift-giver of all, our wonderful God and Father. Emmanuel (God with us) came in the flesh to live with mankind. Just as the Holy Spirit made this possible in the Christmas story, the same Spirit makes Jesus Christ present today in the life of every believer. Through praise, thanks and gratitude for God’s gift to humanity, Psalm 89 reminds us that “Forever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.”

This child is Christ, the King!
