What Must I Do To Be Saved?

“Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” — Acts 16:30 (NIV)

Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God in prison around midnight. The other inmates couldn’t believe what they were hearing. Suddenly, there was a violent earthquake that shook the prison’s foundations, and all the prison doors flew open at once, releasing every prisoner’s chains. All the prison doors swing loose on their hinges, which roused the jailer from sleep and led him to believe that all the inmates had escaped. He took out his sword and was about to kill himself when Paul stopped him and told him that none of the prisoners had escaped. The jailer rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas, brought them out, and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household (Acts 16:25-31).”

What must we do in order to be saved? The answer is far too simple to be true—belief in Jesus Christ! God has provided a very gracious response. John 3:16 tells us, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Because of Jesus Christ’s finished work on the cross, we can freely accept the gift of salvation. All we need to do is believe in the Gospel. The gospel is the good news that in Jesus Christ, God became man in order to reconcile lost people to himself. Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life for us and died on the cross to atone for our sins. He was buried, and on the third day, he rose from the dead, ensuring our eternal redemption. He ascended into heaven as Lord of all after defeating Satan and the forces of darkness. Everyone who repents and believes in him is forgiven of their sins and given eternal life.

Now the question is, do you believe in the gospel?
