Do Not Quench the Spirit
Today’s Daily Devotion

To “quench” the Spirit means to hinder or stifle His work in our lives. We can quench the fire of the Spirit by rejecting Him, ignoring His promptings, resisting His leading, doubting Him, or falling into sin. When we start to make ourselves the center of attention, it is sure to quench the Spirit.
Paul’s command to not quench the Spirit can be seen as a call to allow the Holy Spirit to work freely in our lives, to be open to His guidance and leading, and to be obedient to His promptings. This means we should strive to live lives that are characterized by love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—the fruit of the Spirit.
To quench the Spirit is to hinder our spiritual growth and effectiveness, and to miss out on the blessings of a vibrant relationship with God. It is important, therefore, that we remain sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit and be intentional about cultivating a lifestyle that honors Him.
Do not quench the Spirit.
