Prince, Prophet, King, and Queen

Numbers 11:26

As Moses and Joshua were leading the Israelites to the promised land, the Lord dispersed the prophetic spirit, which had been imparted on Moses, to seventy elders among the Israelites. Two elders, Eldad and Medad were left in camp while the others joined Moses and Joshua outside the camp to prophesy. Joshua encourages Moses to stop the two elders from prophesying and Moses responds with: “Are you jealous for my sake” Would that all the people of the Lord were prophets! Would that the Lord might bestow his spirit on them all” (V.29).

Moses sees the Lord’s dispersion of the prophetic spirit on two elders within the camp as a glimmer of hope in which all the people might become the Lord’s prophets. The two elders represent icons of an ideal to be shared for all God’s people prophesying and sharing the Lord’s message throughout the world.
