Following Jesus Does Not Make You A Star

When ridiculed, we bless; when persecuted, we endure; when slandered, we respond gently.

I Corinthians 4:12-13

The apostle Paul is addressing the Corinthians to promote peace, unity, and love. The Corinthians were starting to side with the apostle that they preferred: some followed Paul, some Apollos, and others Peter. He acknowledges that by choosing the higher calling to follow Jesus Christ we become a spectacle to the world. “When ridiculed, we bless; when persecuted, we endure; when slandered, we respond gently. We have become like the world’s rubbish, the scum of all, to this very moment.”

The life of discipleship that Jesus calls you despite its hardships is the most fulfilling and joyful life you could ever know. That’s because it is a life lived in growing intimacy with the Lord. The closer you get to Him, the more he feels you with his grace, his peace and his love.
