A Holy Compulsion

Today’s Daily Devotion

Jesus is the ultimate example of holy compulsion carrying out the will of his Father. The prophet Jeremiah is one of many examples of people who felt they must serve the Lord. Jeremiah was called by God as a young man to speak his word to the people of Jerusalem-but there were times when he resisted the call.

The love of Christ impels us, once we have come to the conviction that one died for all.
2 Corinthians 5:14

At one point, he confessed, “All day long I am an object of laughter; everyone mocks me (Jeremiah 20:7).

Any resistance to God’s calling never lasted long: “It is as a fire is burning in my heart, imprisoned in my bones; I grow weary holding back, I cannot!” (20:9). Jeremiah was captivated by God’s word and inspired to keep proclaiming it. The Apostle Paul experienced the same burning desire to serve the Lord writing to the believers in Corinth, “The love of Christ compels us, once we have come to the conviction that one died for all” (2 Corinthians 5:14).

We are all called to serve the Lord with burning desire to do our Father’s will. In prayer, you may ask: “Speak to me, Lord, and move my heart to do your will! Teach me your ways and fill me with a deeper desire to obey you.”

A zeal for the Lord!
