A Knightly Soldier

2 Timothy 24-25

The military edition of Our Daily Bread is written for those serving in the armed forces and looks at some of life’s biggest questions: Who are we? Where did we come from? Why are we here? Where are we going? We all called to a mission greater than ourselves and those who served or are serving in the military live under the ethos of “duty, honor, country.”

The first devotion highlights Union soldier Joshua Chamberlain distinguished service and heroism in the Civil War receiving the Medal of Honor. Chamberlain was designated to receive the first flag of surrender at Appomattox Courthouse. The defeated troops of the South expected to be ridiculed and humiliated. Instead, Chamberlain showed them kindness and respect reflecting the grace of Jesus Christ. In conflict and in reconciliation our response should reflect the gracious heart of a knightly soldier of Jesus Christ.
