And It Grew and Became A Tree…

What is the kingdom of God like? To what can I compare it?

Luke 13:18

In the October 29th Magnifcat meditation of the day, Jesus compares the Kingdom of God to a mustard seed that becomes a large bush where birds of the sky dwell in its branches. The mustard seed can compare to the infant Jesus, born a man and humbled like a seed and then exalted like a tree as He ascended into heaven. Jesus was like a seed when he suffered and a tree when he rose from the dead. He is a seed when He endures hunger and a tree when He feeds the five thousand.

Let’s now consider the branches of the tree. The apostles are branches of the tree as well as those who follow the ways of Jesus Christ. If anyone wishes to cling to them, he must not drown beneath the waters of the world but rather, hiding in their shade, escape the fire of the burning judgment in Gehenna.
