God Qualifies the Called

“Here I am,” I said; “send me.”

Isaiah 6:8

Each Saturday morning, I look forward to my Cursillo men’s group. The full name of Cursillo is Cursillo de Cristiandad meaning “a short course in Christian living.” Cursillo started in Majorca, Spain in the 1940’s and is dedicated to help Christians know Christ better. The first reading at mass that morning was from Isaiah 6:1-8. Isaiah witnessed the Seraphim praising God, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts! All the earth is filled with his glory!

Then the house shook and was filled with smoke and Isaiah said, “Woe is me, I am doomed! For I am a man of unclean lips, living among a people of unclean lips; yet my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!” God then charged one of the Seraphim to fly over to Isaiah holding an ember with tongs from the altar. The Seraphim touched Isaiah mouth with the ember and said, “See, now that this has touched your lips, your wickedness is removed, your sin purged.” Then Isaiah heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?” Boldly Isaiah responded, “Here I am, send me!”
