God’s Timing

“The Lord forbid that I should do such a thing to my master, the Lord’s anointed, or lay my hand on him; for he is the anointed of the Lord.”
– 1 Samuel 24:6

Read 1 Samuel 24:1-13

Because of Saul’s disobedience, the prophet Samuel explained to Saul that God would not let his kingdom endure. God would give the kingship to “a man after his own heart” (1 Samuel 13:14). When David became a powerful warrior, it triggered Saul and saw David as a threat to his reign. Later on, he chased David with three thousand of his armies to kill him. Due to this, David escaped into the wilderness as a fugitive.

During the chase, Saul saw a cave and went in to relieve himself not knowing the David and his people are also in the same cave. It is the best opportunity for David to kill Saul. However, he felt guilty and told his men, “God forbid that I should have done this to my master, God’s anointed, that I should so much as raise a finger against him. He’s God’s anointed (v. 6)!”

There are times when we feel like it is taking too long before God answers our prayer and delivers us from the situation we are going through. How long have you been waiting? How long have you been praying about your circumstance? God’s timing is always perfect. Ecclesiastes 3:1 says “There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens.” Whenever we feel like it is taking too long already, let us not search for a way out. Instead, let us search for God all the more. Let us not pray for God to change His plans on our situation but pray that we will allow God to change us and work through us.

Lord, help me to trust in your sense of timing.
