His Revealed Will

What is God’s will?

We can interpret two versions of the will of the Lord in the Bible. First is the sovereign will of God, which comes to pass regardless if we believe Him or not, or if we obey Him or not. The second is His will of command or His revealed will; His general guidelines found in the Bible that He commands us to obey.

Paul is imparting general teachings on how to live a sanctified life, a life of love. Purity of life comes from knowing, understanding, and living out the will of the Lord. His revealed will is evident throughout the Bible as a guide. He commands holiness, sanctification, thanksgiving, and purity.

It is still up to us if we will obey the will of the Lord or not. But let’s not forget that we will be accountable for whatever our decision will be. Psalm 1 says the person who meditates on God’s law day and night is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers. First John 2:17 also tells us that whoever does the will of God lives forever.

Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.
Ephesians 5:17

Choose to live a new life in love.
