Isaiah, The Fifth Gospel

Then the glory of the Lord shall be revealed.

Isaiah 40:5

The book of Isaiah is often referred as the fifth gospel as it speaks often about the Messiah. Isaiah is the source of nearly one-quarter of the Old Testament quotations and allusions cited in the New Testament. It is filled with various prophecies that are fulfilled in the life and death of Jesus Christ. Isaiah was the Bible book most quoted by Jesus and his disciples to make clear identification of the Messiah.

In Isaiah chapter 40: A voice cries out; and in the desert prepare the way of the Lord! Make straight in the wasteland a highway for our God! This was the voice of John the Baptist preparing the way for the Lord. Go up to a high mountain, Zion, herald of glad tidings; cry out at the top of your voice, Jerusalem, herald of good news! As John was baptizing with water, he was preparing people to re-establish a relationship with God and the coming Messiah, to be baptized in the Holy Spirit.
