Galatians 2:10 Daily Devotion Scripture

All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I had been eager to do all along. — Galatians 2:10

Many scriptures tell us how Jesus remembers and cares for the poor. In the sermon of the mount, He says, “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you will be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh (Luke 6:20-21).” A man asks Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life and He answers, “You lack one thing; go, sell what you own, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me (Mark 10:21).”

One of the key messages of the New Testament and Jesus Christ is humanity should do everything possible to help the poor. “The poor you will always have with you,” Jesus says in Mark 14:7, and this is still true today. The ongoing presence of the poor serves as the foundation for the ongoing command to be openhanded. There is endlessly an opportunity to demonstrate love and kindness to the poor in our community. Let us pray for a compassionate heart and an open hand for those in need.

Jesus has called us to care for the poor.
