Repent and Turn Away From Idols

By Khai Samante
In our scripture today, the elders in exile approached the prophet Ezekiel to give them a word from the Lord. But God knows they set up idols in their hearts and put a wicked stumbling block before their faces. So, God asked Ezekiel, “Should I indeed let myself be consulted by them?”
Even though the elders deserted God for their idols, God still gave them a word to recapture their hearts. He calls them to repent, to turn away from their idols, and to renounce all their detestable practices.
We can learn three things from God’s word to the elders. First is to have a heart check before coming to God—reflecting if we are already putting up idols and stumbling block in our lives. Second, God is giving us a chance to repent and turn away from our idols. Lastly, God remains faithful to his covenant with us. He wants to give us a chance to lay hold of our hearts, that we may be His people and He will be our God.
‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Repent! Turn from your idols and renounce all your detestable practices!
