Sons of Thunder

Today’s Daily Devotion

September 18, 2023

By Dr. George J. Ceremuga

On September 1, I traveled with friends Charlie and Richard to Oglala on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation from Rapid City, SD. It was a beautiful sunny day as we enjoyed the fellowship on our 90-minute commute. Charlie, a spiritual man of Lakota ancestry, grew up in Oglala and asked us to accompany him to establish his worship site, his “spiritual mansion.”

James, son of Zebedee and his brother John to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means “sons of thunder.”
Mark 3:17

He was inspired by the Holy Spirit to fast and pray for three days for Holy Spirit guidance, wisdom, and clarity.

As we were walking to his “holy ground,” a small, dark, thunderous cloud formed over us with rain off in the distance. I commented that we were the “sons of thunder” as Jesus called James and John for their fervent and fiery defense of Jesus during an encounter with the Samaritans. As sons of thunder, we knew it was God’s signal of grace and blessing to inspire us into a deeper relationship with our Lord, Jesus Christ.

On fire for the Holy Spirit!
