What Does True Love Look Like?

Today’s Daily Devotion – November 2 2022

By Khai Samante

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. — Romans 12:9

What does true love look like? Other version says, “Don’t just pretend to love others. I adore them so.

Sincere love puts the needs of the other person before its own, making it “other-centered” and selfless. It is constant and does not change. This form of love is selfless, self-sacrificing, and has no expectations for reward.

This type of love is not always easy to live out, especially if the other person does not reciprocate your love or, worse, does not deserve your love. However, the Bible also instructs us to despise what is evil and cling to what is good. In nature, we are all sinners. We are sinners not because we sin, but because we are sinners from the beginning. What the scripture is saying is that we should not hate and reject the person because of his nature, but only what is evil about him. That person is also made in God’s image, and God loves him in the same way. Hence, we too should give them a genuine love.

Because of the love of Jesus, we can also love other people sincerely.

Thank you, Lord, for loving me despite all my flaws and brokenness.
