What Is Our Obligation?

Today’s Daily Devotion – October 16 2022

By Khai Samante

“For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.” — Romans 8:24-25

Paul’s contrast implies that we are obligated to live in accordance with the Holy Spirit. We are commanded to serve the Spirit rather than the flesh; to serve God rather than ourselves; to resist sin and put wrongdoing to death.

Whatever we do in sinful flesh will perish, but whatever we do in obedience to God will last forever. We are already free of condemnation, but not of sin. We await the resurrection of our bodies, when our adoption will be complete, with both patience and eagerness. Only through our Lord, Jesus Christ, can we fulfill our obligation.

Lord, help me choose to live according to your calling.
