Who is Jesus to You?

Today’s Daily Devotion

September 15, 2023

By Dr. George J. Ceremuga

When Jesus and his disciples were in the region of Caesarea Philippi, he first asked the disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one or the prophets.”

Who do you say that I am?
Matthew 16:15

Jesus wasn’t really concerned about the word on the street. He was warming them up to what he really wanted to know. He wanted to know who his beloved disciples thought he was.

Peter, boldly exclaimed, “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah” (VV.16-17). And so, I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loose in heaven (VV. 16-19). For Peter’s conviction he was entrusted with the privilege and responsibility of proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God.

Jesus is my beloved companion, champion, consort and Savior.
