Who is the Other Disciple?

What are you discussing as you walk along?

Luke 24:17

Recently at mass Fr. Bernard’s homily enriched my morning as it gave historical possibilities on whom Cleopas was walking with on the Emmaus trail. Father mentioned that some historians claim the Cleophas was the brother of Joseph-Jesus’ earthly father. So, Father Bernard continued that the unknown disciple may have been his wife, Jesus’ Aunt. In essence, scripture never identifies the unknown disciple as male or female. Let us boldly proclaim that “we” are the “known” disciple walking with Cleopas.

From chapter 24 of Luke’s Gospel: “That very day, the first day of the week, two of Jesus’ disciples were going to a village seven miles from Jerusalem called Emmaus, and they were conversing about all the things that had occurred. And it happened that while they were conversing and debating, Jesus himself drew near and walked with them, but their eyes were prevented from recognizing him.”

I proudly walk with Jesus and Cleopas!
