Yes or No

But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ be ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.

Matthew 5:37

I enjoy my Thursday routine going to the gym and then daily mass at the St. Joseph’s chapel at Ellsworth Air Force Base. I served at Ellsworth as a physician over twenty years ago and still have many fond memories. We are blessed to be shepherded by Monsignor Gerry who is a remarkable servant of God. Prior to a daily mass last month, Monsignor Gerry and I again discussed donuts being served after our Sunday liturgy. As he is aware, my position is strongly against donuts with fruit as a healthier option.

Monsignor Gerry tied this in perfectly during his homily on how unwavering St. Athanasius, Bishop and Doctor of the Church, who uncompromisingly defended the divinity of Christ against the majority in the Arian heresy. Arianism arose in the fourth century and denied the Divinity of Christ. As God raised up Bishop Saint Athanasius as an outstanding champion of His Son’s divinity against the more popular view, we all are called to stand behind our calling and as Monsignor Gerry said, “Treat our bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit.”

All for the glory of God!
