You Are Not Your Own

Today’s Daily Devotion – December 14 2022

“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything. — 1 Corinthians 6:12 NIV

“My life, my choice.”

I once asked my daughter what she thought of the mantra. After hearing her thoughts on it, we tried to expose the lie in that mantra and reveal the truth according to God’s Word. The enemy twisted our freedom and tricked us into thinking we were the sole owners of our lives and bodies. As a result, we are led to believe that we have the freedom to choose our sexuality and that sexual immorality is acceptable. This kind of self-gratification will enslave us to sin and lead us to eternal damnation.

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). The earth is the Lord’s, and all it contains, the world, and those who dwell in it (Psalm 24:1). The Word of God tells us we are not our own. We are bought at a price, a very expensive price, and that is the blood of Jesus Christ. Our mission in life is not self-fulfillment or gratification but to care for others and reflect our love for God (Colossians 3:12). For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone (Romans 14:7).

We are not our own because of our faith in Christ.
