Sight Set On the Finish Line

Today’s Daily Devotion – December 15 2022

1 Corinthians 9:26-27 NIV Daily Devotion Scripture

Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

— 1 Corinthians 9:26-27 NIV

Running the race of Christian life entails living intentionally in accordance with God’s design. It is advancing with a sense of direction and purpose. Like what Paul said to the Corinthians, we should not run aimlessly. Instead, we should have a specific goal in mind.

Self-discipline is required to fulfill God’s plan for our lives. We run like racers, with our sights set on the finish line. Our main competitor in this race is ourselves. If we want to achieve our goals, we must discipline our mind, body, and spirit. We must bring our bodies under our control and keep them there indefinitely. This balances out self-indulgence.

Distraction is all around us. But, with God’s help, we can live a full life. He will give us the strength and wisdom we need to center our lives on Him. Stand firm. Let nothing move us. Let’s always give ourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because our labor in the Lord is not in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58).

Run the race for the Lord.
