A Tiny Whispering Sound…

Go outside and stand on the mountain before the Lord; the Lord will be passing by.

1 Kings 19:11

Elijah was on the run for his life. He took shelter in a cave. Then the Lord spoke to him and directed him to go outside and stand on the mountain as the Lord will be passing by. Standing outside, the Lord brought a strong and heavy wind rending the mountains and crushing rocks before the Lord-but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake—but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake there was a fire—but the Lord was not in the fire. After the fire there was a tiny whispering sound. It was in the whisper that Elijah had found the Lord.

In that whisper, the Lord gave peace, comfort, and direction to Elijah and named Elisha as his successor. Silence is the classroom where we hear the words of the Lord.
