Hear the Word of the Lord!

I remain with you in this place, in the land I gave your fathers long ago and forever.

Jeremiah 7:7

Jeremiah carries out this message from the Lord in chapter seven while standing at the gate of the Temple. Thousands of years later it rings true to this very day. ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Reform your ways and your deeds so that I may remain with you in this place. Only if you thoroughly reform your ways and your deeds; if each of you deals justly with his neighbor; if you no longer oppress the resident alien, the orphan, and the widow; if you no longer shed innocent blood in this place, or follow strange gods to your own harm, will I remain with you in this place, in the land I gave your fathers long ago and forever.”

Jeremiah’s proclamation underscores the need for authentic repentance and a heart turned toward God. Trusting in religious practices alone would not save them. The temple, while significant, could not shield them from judgment if they persisted in wrongdoing. God’s enduring presence and favor was contingent on their obedience and righteous living.
