Prayer is the Best Medicine

The prayers of the righteous are powerful and effective.

James 5:16

At a recent daily mass, “Flo” was experiencing a medical emergency. The celebrant was the same priest that we prayed over a few years ago after a daily mass for a medical issue and the Lord healed him in a few hours. While a few of us attended to this elderly woman, it was mentioned that she has history of low blood sugar. I sprinted to the kitchen and mixed a few sugar packets into a glass of orange juice.

After a few minutes of drinking the juice, her color and mentation improved. As mass concluded the paramedics arrived and Flo was taken to the hospital. The faithful gathered around her in prayer. The following week I attended mass and sat with some of Flo’s friends and I asked them how she was doing. After running a myriad of tests she was discharged home with a case of “exhaustion.”
