Listen, Obedience, and Love

My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.

Luke 8:21

The mother of Jeus and His brothers came to Him but were unable to join him because of the crowd. He was told, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside and they wish to see you.” He said to them in reply, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it (Luke 8:19-21).

In this passage, Jesus emphasizes the significance of spiritual kinship over blood relations. Jesus takes this opportunity to redefine familial ties, suggesting that true relationships are those formed through obedience to God’s Word. Is a relationship with God attractive enough for us to want to direct our whole lives toward doing his will? Jesus wants to guide you into a life-giving relationship with Him as well as your brothers and sisters and mother.
