A Life of Freedom

Today’s Daily Devotion

By Khai Samante

Are you trying to be justified by the law or by the righteousness of Jesus Christ?

If we are not careful, we may fall into the enemy’s trap of believing that our own righteousness through doing the works of the law can save us. Obeying the rituals and sacraments of the law is the result of our own efforts, and attempting to produce perfect righteousness from them will save no one. Paul has written that those who continue to follow the law in order to be right before God are still slaves to their own sin (Galatians 4:8-9). But those who come to God by faith in Christ are free.

God has called us to a life of freedom! Freedom from the law does not imply lawlessness. He expects us to use our freedom to serve one another in love, rather than using it to do whatever we want and destroy our freedom. Believers live a new life characterized by love through the power of the Holy Spirit. What matters to Jesus Christ is our love-filled faith. He has set us free, so we must be firm not to accept the yoke of slavery again.

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
Galatians 5:1 NIV

The act of true freedom is by loving others as ourselves.
