Baptized Into One Body

Strive eagerly for the greatest spiritual gifts.

1 Corinthians 12:31

Jesus is the head of our church, and we are the body of Christ. The apostle Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 12, “As a body is one though it has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though many, are one body in Christ. For in one Spirit, we were all baptized into one Body, whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free persons, and we were all given to drink of one Spirit.”

The apostle Paul then reminds the faithful that some people are designated Apostles, prophets, teachers, mighty deeds, gifts of healing, assistance, administration, and varieties of tongues. Shortly after this scripture was read at a recent daily mass, I was called upon to use my gifts of healing to attend to an elderly woman with a medical emergency. By the grace of God, she was safely transported to the hospital. Indeed, I strive eagerly for the greatest spiritual gifts.
