Our Time On Earth Is A Gift

There is an appointed time for everything, and a time for everything under the heavens.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-11

I can always make more money, but I cannot make more time. Time is a limited resource ticking away each day and it is important that we use it wisely. And yet God has “put the timeless into our hearts” (Ecclesiastes 3:11), giving us a longing for eternity. Even though we are meant for eternity, we don’t fully understand how God uses the tasks he places before us to prepare for eternity.

God gave us a great example in Jesus Christ who lived both in time and eternity. Jesus knew from experience what is what like to exist in this world. Sleep or pray? Interrupt an urgent errand to heal an insistent sufferer? It matters how we spend our time on earth as our choices help carry out God’s plan in the world. May we learn the wisdom of living with our feet on earth and our hearts in heaven!
