Love, Labor, and Leisure

Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.

Mark 6:31

In Father Gerry’s recent homily, he discussed life’s three L’s: Love, Labor, and Leisure as he reflected on Mark’s gospel 6:30-34. As the disciples were returning from spreading love through the gospel and healing the multitudes, Jesus gathered them to a deserted place to rest. The people kept on coming in great numbers and the disciples had no opportunity to even eat.

Rest is essential and must be prioritized in our lives for an efficient work-life balance. Just as the disciples’ plans for rest were thwarted by the vast crowds who hastened on foot to arrive before them, we must always strive to make concerted efforts to incorporate leisure into our lives. Remember the best laid plans of mice and men…

Rest in the arms of Jesus… there is no safer place!
