Practice Makes Perfect!

So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect?

Matthew 4:48

I have more signals of grace to share from my “much more than a Lenten Fish Fry” experience last month. While serving the gathering of people, I was humbled by a person that can “irritate” me. As we were waiting for a fresh batch of fish, he asked me if I wanted to hear an earworm, that is a catchy song that runs through your mind. I smiled and said, “sure.” For his gesture, his random act of kindness, softened my heart and I was able to see him as Jesus. The following morning my earworm was, “We are the world, we are the children.” I shared this encounter with my men’s group the following morning.

The gospel reading for that day was God’s signal of grace for me. For in Mathew 5:43-48, Jesus said to His disciples: “You have heard that it was said, you shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have…? So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

We are the world; we are the children!
