Choose Carefully

For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.

Matthew 6:21

Miguel Dulick writes a poignant reminder of the above verse in the Living Faith on June 21, 2024. Let me share it with you:

Don’t mix this up! It’s not where your heart is, your treasure will be. That’s a nice, comfy sort of pillowcase sentiment. Jesus is more challenging. He knows we love money and its variants! So, treasure first, and your heart will follow. Choose that treasure very carefully. Store it, claim it, accumulate it, but choose nothing earthbound. Nothing that decays! What then? Heavenly treasure! Can you name some? As this saying is in the Sermon on the Mount, just start by running through Beatitudes, and then start stocking your bodega. Poverty, peace of mind, patience, justice, mercy, purity, sacrifice, loving-kindness! Full as it is, there’s still room for your heart! Of course, even eternal treasure is not for keeping but for giving away, just like Jesus.
