The Feast of the Presentation

Today’s Daily Devotion

February 18, 2023

By Dr. George Ceremuga

On February 2nd, the Catholic Church celebrated the Feast of the Presentation where Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the Temple in Jerusalem to dedicate Him to God. In some parts of the world, this feast is also known as Candlemas. Candles are blessed at mass and often candlelight processions are held to proclaim that Jesus is the “light for revelation to the Gentiles.”

Simeon was able to witness the fulfillment of God’s promise. He rejoiced that through Jesus, God’s salvation would “reach to the ends of the earth” (Isaiah 49:6). Finally, he could die in peace. Indeed, it is a great day to light a candle and reflect giving glory, honor, and praise to our Lord, Jesus Christ. It is always a good day to let the light of Christ shine through us and be His light for this world.

A light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel.
Luke 2:32

Jesus is the light of the world!
