Surrendered In Prayer

“I look for someone to come and help me, but no one gives me a passing thought! No one will help me; no one cares a bit what happens to me.” – Psalm 142:4 (NLT)

Read Psalm 142

Psalm 142 is David’s prayer while hiding from Saul in a cave. It’s a “Maskil,” which is a Hebrew for “contemplation.” It is a Psalm of instruction because of what he has learned while in the cave. He cried out to God, told God about his troubles, and vented his frustrations. David has learned to get down on his knees and seek God, and he wants to teach others how to do the same.

David had the impression that no one cared about him. He felt isolated. We, like David, sometimes feel alone and abandoned in our battles. We can also pray to God like David did. The God who loves and cares for David is also the God who would never abandon us. In the land of the living, we can confidently proclaim that God is our refuge and our portion.

Let us follow in the footsteps of David, who, when he felt alone, surrendered himself to payer. As Philippians 4:6 says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.”

Lift your prayers to God who hears.
