The Waiting Game

Read Lamentations 3:25-26

At the present time, when we want “instant” things, being patient in “waiting” is getting more challenging. Knowing the specific date or time when something we are expecting to arrive or happen can be easier compared to waiting for something that we do not know when it takes place. Even Abraham who received a promise directly from the Lord had gone through personal struggles, perhaps because of impatience and doubts, while waiting on the Lord. Nearly three decades went by when his “son of promise” Isaac was born.

It’s already the last quarter of the year and most of us are still greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. A month or two of community quarantine then becomes almost 7 months of waiting, waiting with full of uncertainties. Psalm 37 of David shows that it is always better to remain faithful to the Lord—a faithfulness embodied in happiness, sincerity, and compassion. In God’s own time, He will make a strong distinction between the faithful and the godless. We do not know the time of the Lord. 2 Peter 3:8 says, “With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.” What shall we do then while waiting? David says, “Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him (v. 7).” We can ask God for grace to stretch our patience and to focus our eyes on Him while in the season of waiting.

What are the promises you are waiting for God to fulfill? God is a God who keeps His promise. God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind (Numbers 23:19). With this, we can hope and trust in the Lord.
