A Pure Gift

God does not respond to what we do; we respond to what God does.

Romans 3:28 MSG

Paul explained very well what our value of salvation means. We gain salvation through faith in Christ and not through doing any works of the law. Sometimes we fall into the lie that the more we serve, the more we help, the more we pray, or the more we read the Bible, the higher is the assurance of our salvation will be.

God took us out of the mess in which we are, and returned us to where he always wanted us to be. He did that not because of our good works. He put us in right standing with himself out of sheer kindness, as a pure gift.

The Message version says, “God sacrificed Jesus on the altar of the world to clear that world of sin. Having faith in him sets us in the clear. This is not only clear, but it’s now—this is current history! God sets things right. He also makes it possible for us to live in his rightness.”

Instead of asking yourself, “What can I do in this situation?” ask “What God can do in this situation?” Then we respond to what God will do or ask us to do. If we will let God set the pace, our lives will get in step with God and everyone else.

Let us shift our focus from what we do to what God does.
