Beatitudes of Gratitude

Today’s Daily Devotion – November 8, 2023

By Dr. George J. Ceremuga

Rejoice and be glad for your reward will be great in heaven. — Mark 5:12

The sermon on the Mount given to the disciples by Jesus teaches that God’s children are those who act like God. The word beatitude comes from Latin meaning “blessed are” and emphasize purity of heart and righteousness. All the beatitudes that Jesus gave us were simple statements that can guide us to living a good life that will bring us to God’s kingdom.

Allow me to share the last three beatitudes: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of me, Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.”

Jesus is telling us blessings will flow from meekness, righteousness, mercy, purity of heart and as peacemakers.

As you read the Beatitudes, please allow yourself to be fully in the presence of Jesus.
