Glory Is the Splendor, Holiness, and Majesty of God! - Daily Devotion

For God is leading Israel in joy by the light of his glory, with his mercy and justice for company. — Baruch 5:9

At last Sunday’s mass, Fr. Ed gave a wonderful homily reflecting on this Old Testament reading. In the first nine verses, the prophet Baruch uses the word glory six times to describe the splendor, holiness, and majesty of God. Baruch was the well-known secretary for the prophet Jeremiah. In his poetic form, Baruch is giving his fellow citizens a ‘pep talk’ and tells them to take off their robes of mourning and misery as they return from exile and to put on the splendor of glory from God forever (V1).

He reassures them that God will bring them borne aloft in glory as on royal thrones (V6) and that Israel may advance secure in the glory of God (V7). For God will show all the earth your splendor: you will be named by God forever the peace of justice, the glory of God’s worship. For God is leading Israel in joy by the light of his glory, with his mercy and justice for company (V9).

All for the glory of God!
