Many biblical verses discuss obedience, discipline, and reproof as God’s love for his people. Yes, sometimes it may seem like “tough love” yet our God is providing compassionate course correction for our sins. His goal is for us to walk close to him on the sacred path. Just as a parent, teacher, coach, friend, or clergy will offer guidance for us to auto correct; if taken with humility: “For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it” (Hebrews 12:11).
Whoever heeds instruction is on the path to life, but he who rejects reproof leads others astray (Proverbs 10:17). The path is the path of righteousness, the red road, the path to salvation. Indeed, as ambassadors for Christ, it is our “duty” to walk with and encourage others to be hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined (Titus 1:8).
