Read John 14  

The book of John records the metaphorical “I am” statements of Jesus. The first four statements are “I am the bread of life (John 6:35),” “I am the light of the world (John 8:12),” “I am the door of the sheep (John 10:7),” “I am the good shepherd (John 10:11), and “I am the resurrection and the life (John 11:25).” Today, we will study another profound statement: “I am the way, the truth, and the life (v. 6).” This is also one of the most common scriptures in the Bible. But what does it mean when He says He is the way, the truth, and the life?  

Jesus is the one and only way to the Father. There is no shortcut or any other substitute way to receive salvation, but only through Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:18 says, “For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.”  

Jesus is the truth because He is the fulfillment of the teaching of the Old Testament. He reveals the true God. He is the Word that became flesh and blood and lived among us. We have seen His one-of-a-kind glory like Father, like Son, full of grace and truth (John 1:14).  

And finally, Jesus alone is the life. He fulfills the Old Testament promises of true and eternal “life” from God. He is the resurrection and the life and whoever believes in Him, though they will experience physical death, shall live and everyone who loves and believes in Him shall never die.  

May we ponder on the truth that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.
