“While the son was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt sorry for his son. So the father ran to him and hugged and kissed him.” - Luke 15:20 NCV
Read Luke 15:17-24
Most of us are familiar with the story of the prodigal son. This is a story of forgiveness, repentance, and the love of a father. The turn of events began when the son, who had been in a state of extreme agony, came to his senses. His viewpoint of life changed once God opened his eyes and convinced him of his sin—the turning point in his conversion. The prodigal son stood up and never stopped walking until he reached his home. While the son was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt sorry for his son. So the father ran to him and hugged and kissed him (vv. 20).
Repentance requires resolutely abandoning your bond with Satan, stepping away far from all temptations, and returning to God through prayer. Luke 15:7 says, “there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents.“ Even though we are undeserving, the Lord will shower us with unexpected demonstrations of his forgiving love. He will wrap us in the righteousness of the Redeemer’s robe. God is so eager to run to us, to hug us, and to kiss us. Let us not seize every opportunity that God presents to us.
Let us return to the Father.
